google...

also, i whisper pee, arr, enn, dee when i shift my car into drive. i hum and chair dance when i eat candy, haven't ever used a screwdriver without uttering the words leftie loosie rightie tightie, and when the man yesterday was explaining how to use my brand new water heater, my eyes glazed over and i waved my hand and asked "uhh. can i google this?"

he shook his head like he was trying to shake me out of it and repeated "there's nothing to google, ma'am. i just said to wait about thirty minutes before you use it or else maybe the water won't be as warm as you'd like it to be."

hmph. he made it sound way less technical the second time.

i think i'm not getting proper sleep. do you ever have bad dreams? i have them all. the. time. practically every night. always about not being able to save one of my babies in the water. like, tsunami water.

i wonder if it would help if i took swimming lessons? maybe a lifesaving course? i'm a little desperate.

if you have tips about how to not have nightmares, share them with me? i think i may also need a dream translator.

perhaps i shall google one.

cute text found here.

iiiii get nightmares all the time. first a few tricks: never eat chocolate anywhere near bedtime. i mean for me, that's starting at like 3 p.m. it's a sure-fire guarantee nightmare inducer. apparently there's a lot of medical doctory stuff to explain that but i'd just argue that anything that delicious is bad before bed. two, and it sounds silly, but i'm a lot calmer when i go to sleep if i shower before bed? i don't know why, but it helps. i think the trick is about conquering the nightfears (technically what i get, still, are 'night terrors') is being extra calm-strong before bed. i also think that advil p.m. helps. as does red wine and sex, but that just might be me. anyway. i have nightmares about things i can't control, too: hurricanes, 9/11 again, the stalker my mama had when i was younger who snuck into our house and into the bed and it was just awful, bill getting hurt in afghanistan... all these things? so i've kind of gotten myself to this point that in my sleep i'll recite the lord's prayer at the scary thing (sometimes the jabberwocky too?) and i'll just say it over and over and over and then usually i wake up and i go back to sleep.
i'm not sure that this is scientific or not. i also sleepwalk. that doesn't give me nightmares, though, just bill and my mama.
especially since i've been known to go outside.

anyway... all i can say is this: when i fall asleep at 9p.m. tonight, at least someone will understand why i couldn't go back to sleep at 4:30. there was some awful monster in my dreams. and phhhhleeeeaze i am not going back there anytime soon.

oooohhh me too. yucky nightmares. I too deal with tsunami water, and I can swim. If you find a good dream interpreter (on google or otherwise!) - please share xx

Okay... so I've actually been learning quite a bit about dream interpretations. I'm not an expert by any means but here's what I can say:

• Water - this relates to your conscious state of mind.

• Babies - In your dreams they are an aspect of yourself. They represent your creation, your idea.

So... I might interpret this by saying that maybe a part of your conscious (waking) life is not allowing you to nourish your creativity and ideas. This is being reflected in your nightmares. Your subconscious mind is begging you to listen.

What do you think?

i've been eating massive amounts of spinach of late. bags and bags of it for dinner. {i make up for the taste by crouton'ing these spinach salads with pink & white frosted animal cookies}. nevertheless i guess i've been feeling guilty about my spinach consumption because last night i had a nightmare that all the country's cows were lying down dead in the streets from a spinach shortage {do cows even eat spinach?...other than this one}.

and as far as google: i google the crap out of everything....although my mom, "goggle's".

love,

what about hanging pretty dream catchers above and around your bed ~ esme would like this, right? and then in the mornings you could take outside and let the winds carry those nightmares away. crazy? yes, but my Cherokee blood tells me it is totally sane to do.

i like the dream catcher idea. i used to have one, it's gone away in all my moves...sad.
i have surreal weird dreams every night that turn into hyper-real night frights. i'd love to sleep a night through. took a melatonin supplement the other day and it worked...once. not since...

sweet dreams.

i took a dream analysis workshop last semester and actually analyzed a dream where my littlest brother was being swept away in a whirlpool. terrifying, right?? anyway. i totally agree with and kathleen. the ladies who ran my group said that you have to personalize it. look at what water means to you (scary, calming, etc.) then look at what gracie, meme and lillie represent. maybe gracie represents creativity? so on and so forth. then put the two together. you're scared that your creativity is being thwarted. does that make sense or is it counselor/dream psychobabble? eek.. feeling less than helpful as i keep typing. yet, i'm still typing. end. xox - hope you're sleeping like a lamb.

This might sound crazy but I had awful reoccurring nightmares and once I started talking about them in detail out loud they stopped. Haven't had them since. Simple but true!

But you just blogged about it... so fingers crossed they'll stop!

I have crazy ass dreams though. Some I don't even want to know...

I was just telling my sister how my scariest dreams always include this horrible moment of complete panic when I look up and see a giant wall of water coming at me and my loved ones. Ugh, it gives me the chills just to think of it. When I was little, my mom would always talk with me about what I wanted to dream that night. When I fell asleep with good things in my head, there didn't seem to be any room for the scary stuff. Out of habit, I still often set an intention for my dream. The added bonus is that falling asleep with good things running through your mind is a lovely way to drift off.

um, it couldn't be from the terrible car accident you had this summer? or the earthquake? or the hurricane you just had?

I agree with all the dream readings but I think you're just now recovering from a rash of bad things and your body is just catching up.

but it can never hurt to take a CPR class or a how to save someone from drowning class.

me and water .... I don't have the dreams but it's probably my worst fear in the world to drown.

I have horrid nightmares; I call them "night terrors". Mine have gotten so bad that they responded to none of my lifestyle-type changes anymore and they were causing chronic exhaustion. So now I take a low dose of beta-blockers (prescribed by my doctor) and it helps reduce the intensity a lot. My dreams are related to traumatic stress; maybe yours are too. I don't know but I do know there are many people with varying levels of PTSD who take beta-blockers for their disturbing nightmares.

I wish you sweet dreams. My name is Amy. I have no idea why google isn't saying the same.

Ugh. I am so sorry my friend. I know that awful feeling of having nightmares all the time. I used to have that too, until I had post partum depression and had every nightmare known to man and then....they stopped. For the most part. I wish I had good advice for you, it seems you got a lot from the lovely gals above. But, know this...it is only because you care so much about your girls and keeping them safe , that you have anxiety dreams like that. And in this beautiful but, sometimes very shaky world....it is normal to be scared & dream about not being able to save them. But, that won't happen....it is just a dream. I just know.
